What is a Google Ads manager (MCC) account?
How manager accounts work, why agencies use them, and what they change for running scripts.
A manager account — still widely called an MCC, after its old name My Client Center — is a Google Ads account that holds other accounts instead of campaigns. You link client accounts to it and then reach all of them with one login.
Why agencies use one
- One login for every client account, with access controlled in one place.
- Cross-account views of performance, alerts and billing.
- Scripts at manager level. A script in a manager account can work through its client accounts in a single run, using
AdsManagerApp.
Manager accounts can also contain other manager accounts, which is how large agencies group clients by team or region.
Manager-level scripts
A script pasted into a manager account does not automatically run in the clients. It has to select accounts and run a function in each:
function main() {
AdsManagerApp.accounts()
.withIds(["123-456-7890", "234-567-8901"])
.executeInParallel("processAccount");
}
function processAccount() {
Logger.log(AdsApp.currentAccount().getName());
}Google processes a limited number of accounts in parallel per run, so very large managers need to split the work.
Manager accounts in chiliad
Connect the manager and the client accounts you want to work with. Paste a script's loader once at manager level; on each run it asks chiliad which client accounts the script is assigned to and runs only those. Assigning or removing an account in chiliad changes the targeting without touching Google Ads.
Manager accounts are available on the Solo plan and above. More in Connecting Google Ads accounts.
