How to schedule a Google Ads script
The frequencies Google Ads offers, how timing really works, and how to choose a schedule for a script.
A script runs when you click Run or on the schedule set in Google Ads. The schedule is always set in Google Ads, also when the code is hosted in chiliad.
Setting the frequency
In Tools β Bulk actions β Scripts, find the script and edit its Frequency. The options are once, hourly, daily, weekly and monthly. For daily and less frequent runs you also choose the hour.
How timing works
- Hourly is the maximum. A script cannot be scheduled more often than once an hour.
- The time is a window, not a moment. A script set for 6 am starts at some point during that hour.
- The account's time zone applies. A manager-level script uses the manager account's time zone.
- A run can take up to 30 minutes. A long hourly script may leave little room before the next run.
Choosing a frequency
- Hourly β budget and spend guards, anything that must react the same day.
- Daily β most monitoring, bid rules and reports. Early morning runs see a complete previous day.
- Weekly β search-term mining, clean-up, summary reports.
- Monthly β budget resets and monthly reporting.
Data for the current day is incomplete and conversions arrive late, so rules that judge performance should usually look at completed days.
Telling chiliad the intended frequency
Each script in chiliad has a Frequency setting. It does not schedule anything; it tells chiliad how often the script is expected to run, so that it can alert you when runs stop arriving β for example a daily script that has been silent for 36 hours. Keep it in line with the schedule in Google Ads. See Monitoring and alerts.
