How to add a script to Google Ads
Step-by-step: where scripts live in Google Ads, how to paste, authorize, preview and schedule one.
Adding a script takes a few minutes, whether you paste a full script or a chiliad loader.
Steps
- In Google Ads, open Tools → Bulk actions → Scripts.
- Click the plus button to create a new script and give it a name you will recognize later.
- Delete the placeholder code and paste yours.
- Click Authorize and approve the permissions with your Google login. The script will act as you.
- Click Preview. The script runs without applying changes to the account, and the Changes and Logs tabs show what it would do.
- If the preview looks right, save, and set the Frequency on the scripts list — for example daily at 6 am.
Client account or manager account?
- Paste into a client account to run the script for that account only.
- Paste into a manager account to run it across client accounts in one go. The script, or its loader, decides which accounts.
With chiliad
You paste the loader rather than the script itself. Copy it from the script's setup wizard, from the Loader view of the editor, or with Get Loader on the Accounts tab. The loader is the same for every account, and you never need to edit it: code and settings are managed in chiliad from then on.
Common snags
- "Authorization required" — click Authorize again; it is needed once per script and again if the script starts using a new Google service.
- Nothing in the logs — the script has no
main()function, or it finished without logging anything. - Preview shows no changes — reporting and alerting scripts make none; check the logs instead.
- 1
Copy or download the loader in chiliad.
- 2
Paste it as a new script in Google Ads — in a client account, or in the manager account to cover many clients at once.
- 3
Authorize once, preview, then schedule. The schedule is always set in Google Ads.
